I try to coordinate with new initiatives but never all out because of constant changes. I have been struggling with the whole technology thing and am glad to see so many who want to keep their art rooms hands on.The Creative Journeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07093662796597737945noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6650247255320056704.post-83537968818497957322013-06-23T19:25:49.727-04:002013-06-23T19:25:49.727-04:00Love this post! I don't use much technology with the kids either.. I do feel they all get so much technology experience elsewhere and at home. We have a computer class for the kids too and our school doesn't have Ipads. When I taught perspective, I actually dragged out the old-fashioned overhead projector, and it was fantastic. The kids had never seen one before, and thought it was just terrific. New technology doesn't always mean better learning.

Thanks so much for your comment. It helps to validate the way. I feel exactly as you do concerning technology in the art room...giving the kids the most hands-dirty experience as possible (even if I only have 1/2 an hour to do it!)...and I'm totally not an elements of art/vocab driller. This post is so enlightening because it's exactly how I feel...but often I'm left feeling that I'm "doing it wrong". You are such an inspiration...I'm gonna have to share this post on facebook and with my fellow art teachers. Thank you!! I said NO the the smart board. White board does just fine by me. We got projection cameras, which I love, but that's as far as the technology goes in my room. This was a great post! Just about everything you wrote is exactly how I feel/say/do with my art room! I know there is a huge push for technology and it "looks good" to principals but I totally agree, kids need to unplug! I think it can be a great teaching tool but the art room should be mostly for creating with hands rather than staring at a monitor!

(I am an art teacher/ graphic design dropout, can you tell?)Mrs. Lhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05808806008285102721noreply@blogger.com
