Project Runway Rebellion

OK, fellow art teachers, are you a fan of Project Runway? It's a reality show that shows off some real talent, and it has been one of my favorite television guilty pleasures. Last night was the season finale, and I was (and still am) really annoyed, and I have the feeling other viewers concur.

Why didn't Mondo win? His stuff was out there, but also fantastic, original, and striking, and, having won three challenges in a row, he seemed the clear winner. And frankly I loved Andy's lovely and elegant collection too, though I would have liked a little more color variety. But GRETCHEN? Ick. The judges said her collection was the most wearable, that people would buy this stuff. Seriously, folks, are you going to wear ugly brown patterned "granny panties" paired with a flowing top? Who would dare walk out of the house in those hideous shorts with ANY kind of top???!!!

The judges were split on their decision, but in the end Heidi Klum lost the battle. I thought it was HER SHOW. Why didn't her opinion take precedence over (ick) Michael Kors? I can't imagine that sweet Tim Gunn was satisfied with the winner.

OK, I promise my next post will be an art teacher-y post. But meanwhile, if you are a Runway fan, weigh in with your opinon please!

  1. Hey Phyl - At this point I vow NEVER to watch Project Runway again! Mondo was certainly the clear winner and from all the reading I have done online it is clear that most agree! Who would wear those granny pants and those horrible dull brown patterns? YUCK! I just read that Tim Gunn is going to be at a King of Prussia Mall tomorrow in PA - yikes, he is going to get an ear-full!!! I know it's only a show but I really wish there was something I could do...so I went on the Lifetime website and wrote them a message. Who knows if anyone will read it!?! Thanks for letting me vent! I agree with you!

  2. Day of the Dead + Circus + bright color + Black & white. What's not to love???

I was betting on Mondo to win and was stunned when Gretchen did. Yick.

You are not alone in your disappointment!!

  3. Mondo was fantastic and I thought for sure he would win. I have no faith in that show any longer. :( BOOOO!

  4. I was really upset! I was totally sure Mondo would win. They probably just wanted to throw us for a loop. I didn't like any of Gretchen's designs all season, and she was a backstabber! I do think the styling help her out a lot, but that's because I love aviator sunglasses and wavy hair! There was a similar show on in the summer about artists competing against each other in similar challenges but I just couldn't get into it.

  7. Wow. 6 comments so far, and all unanimous about Mondo (and also about Gretchen).

And by the way, Project Runway fans (or former fans...) if you happen to find yourself in NYC, make sure to make a stop in the coolest fabric store anywhere - MOOD. It's barely got a sign outside, but once in, the range of available fabrics is spectacular.

  9. I'm with you, the fake green pleather Gretchen had was hideous! It was screaming Three's Company. Mondo should have won.

  10. I agree Gretchen's design were boring and to me had an I've seen this this before look to them. I thought many of Mondo's pieces were wearable, I just don't think most people could carry off the whole look.
