ReplyDeleteI am so envious of your fall leaves. I just got home from dinner (actually at a great club looking out at the beach sunset which was pretty nice) where we were all wishing we were in New England where we could see the changing of leaves!!! Glad you are enjoying your time:))
ReplyDeleteThat is absolutely beautiful! Looks like a great day on the lake :). I've had a similar problem with sideways photos, but I don't know if it's the same problem as you're having. My camera automatically rotates photos for me if it thinks that they are vertical, but once I upload them onto my computer, they look horizontal. But then, when I upload them onto Blogger, they go vertical again! What I do in that case, is I rotate them all sideways; save them; and then rotate them all back again, and save them. Then they upload the right way. It's a bit tedious, but technology sometimes is that way, and it works for me.

ReplyDeleteHow far from home is the camp?Do you sleep there during the week or only weekends? Do you keep the kayak up there or at home? Those pictures are amazing! Do you get nervous being out on the lake by yourself? I would love to learn how to kayak! I'm so glad you are happy with your decision to retire!

Pat, the camp is 5 minutes from where I taught. My school is 30 miles from home, so I guess the camp is about 35! Easy drive.
DeleteWe sleep there randomly, usually just one night at a time since we leave the cat at home to fend for herself.
Generally, I'm not nervous at all - the lake is small, and on windy days like today (yes, I was out there again today!) I keep closer to shore except if I'm crossing. It is a small lake. I have a waterproof box, and my camera is in it and cell phone, so in a pinch I could make a call. I wear a life jacket and am a good swimmer anyhow. My kayak has a rudder which makes it more stable in a wind, but also is sleek enough for good speed. Once in a while, when I head into the far reaches of the marsh at the end of the lake, I get a little creeped out if I haven't seen any other humans. I tend to go into tight places and have gotten stuck a few times, but I always manage to get unstuck.
I keep the kayak right there, on the shore (though it gets stored in the camp basement for the winter.) I have a car-top carrier, but I am so short I am unable to load/unload it myself to take it elsewhere. I need to invest in a different type of carrier that I can handle myself. My husband doesn't much like to kayak (though he'll canoe in calm weather).

ReplyDeletePhyl, I LOVE you camp! I am hoping one day to live on the lake. I have a large river near me but the drought has really dried it up. (At least near me!) We have a pop-up camper and enjoy camping every other weekend but now it is fall so we are packing up our sleeping bags for the winter. We have inflatable raft boats which are a blast but since I have little kids their is no kayaking for a while. Thanks for sharing your beautiful adventures! :)
