So, I haven't posted in about a week, but it has nothing to do
with the weather, I promise! I want to let everyone know who has
asked - we are fine! Here in northeastern NY we dodged the bullet. We
were prepared for scary weather and power outages, but it never
happened. When Sandy was devastating the coastline, we had some strong
winds and rain, but nothing really out of the ordinary. Then yesterday,
when it was snowing in NYC, we didn't even get a flurry. My heart goes
out to all the people whose lives have been so disrupted, and I hope
that your will find your way back to some normalcy soon.
Now on to the post!! I've been busy. In a week, I'll be heading to
my state conference, even though I am retired now. I'm attending for 3
reasons:
- I'm a member of the Board of Trustees, serving as rep for my region
- I'm teaching workshops. Three of them. Yikes. That's why I've been busy.
- I love art conferences; I love the people; I love it all!
So, with three workshops to prep for, I've been creating
PowerPoints and handouts, and collecting and packing all the visuals and
materials I will need. Holy moly, I have a lot to bring with me!
One of my workshops is called Get 'Stuck' on Papier-Mache. If
you've been following my blog for a long time, you know that
papier-mache is just about my favorite thing on the planet. I love
paint, and I love color, but I LOVE those buckets of slimy goo! So I'm
sharing my unique techniques and then, later in the same day, I'm doing a
hands-on workshop where participants can try out the techniques from my
earlier workshop. My other workshop is about easy ideas with recycled materials. The images on today's post are just a small sampling of student papier-mache. I wanted to include more, but I've been fighting with blogger tonight. I promise I'll give lots of details after the actual conference!.
For my last photo of the post, I'm sharing a Halloween pic of me from a couple of years ago. The kids all knew what artist I was - the bandaged ear, the ratty old clothes, the red beard, and the candles on my hat are all hints...
