Sneak peek 1st grade portraits
There are still 2 more classes of 1st graders who will hopefully finish their portraits on Wednesday, but I couldn't wait to share this one that was completed today. Last week I put their names in a bucket, and partners were picked randomly to draw portraits of each other. I think Tanner has really "captured" Isabella, with her dark hair, soulful eyes and full lips. I love that the 1st graders don't even realize how hard it is to do this!

Wow! Really has a Francesco Clemente feel to the eyes! You can tell how confident he is in this pic. Too cute. Who keeps the picture?
ReplyDeleteGood question, Erica! I've been doing this project for years, and it's always a big decision. I usually let each partnership of kids make the decision. In this case, the girl's mom is a former student of mine, and she is a teacher in the school. I have a permanent "gallery" of framed art in the school, and the very first pic in the gallery is one of these portraits done in 1st grade by and of girls who graduated from high school last year! And I swear, the girl in the pic is totally still recognizeable!
ReplyDeleteHe's a cutie, too. I'd like to see her picture of him!!
ReplyDeleteYou will. I usually hang them in pairs, and when I get the bulletin board up I'll photo all of them. I took this photo today because I thought his drawing was really special. YOu can see he's proud!
ReplyDeletewow! so awesome and inspiring! can't wait to see all the finished works.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea for 1st grade!!
ReplyDeleteHI Phyl, what a great idea and how interesting to see how Tanner captivated Isabella's feature. I have been doing portraits as well. I will definitely use this idea. Thanks heaps! Anna:)
