Winter Interlude: Frozen Bubbles and Frosty Snow

My DragonWing Arts classes have been on hiatus, and are back in gear tomorrow, so I'll be sharing some art projects again very soon.  In the meantime, I've been making the best of winter weather and cold temperatures, by attempting to freeze bubbles and photograph them, and taking walks tromping through freshly fallen snow.  So I thought I'd share a few pics!

Sleighbells ring, are you listening?

I've actually posted this photo before, but what the heck, my sweet Subaru deserves the recognition. Because today's ride home reminded me why she is mine forever. I drove my 30 miles home from school around 5:30pm in, what the radio announcer nicely called, a "wintry mix". The temperature hovered around 32 degrees and the mix included freezing rain, hail, sleet, and wet gloppy thick snow. It was flying so hard and furious that the dotted lines had all but disappeared, and the view of flying snow out my windshield reminded me of going into warp drive on Star Trek. Saw a truck stopped on the side of the highway on a hill, saw some flashing police car lights further down the road, but me, I made it home just fine (OK instead of going my usual 10 mph ABOVE the speed limit I drove about 10 mph BELOW it). But not a problem. Winter has arrived and I love my stick shift, love my car.

On a more serious note, I just read a very thought-provoking post over at Artful Artsy Amy's blog, and I'll include the link here for you. http://http//artfulartsyamy.blogspot.com/2010/11/what-do-you-do-with-problem-like-maria.html
And while you're there, take a look at what else she posted today. There's interesting stuff there, and different than what's in other art blogs.

Changing seasons and more work avoidance...

I have a lot of work to do; all my averages need to be completed for my 6th graders, my classroom is a mess, and I am in a funk this afternoon. So I'm taking a brief break to do this posting and then it's back to getting the job done.
I don't have any beautiful artwork to post today, but I thought I'd show you my school, which I think is pretty nice, especially this green time of year.
The views above are the front of my school, after all the kids had gone home yesterday. (I was here LATE, as I seem to be a lot lately.) Isn't it pretty? The grounds are very well cared for.

But below are some views of my school at a different time of the year that I thought I'd post for those of you who are in the south. The first two are views of the back of the school, the next photo is taken in the same location looking in the other direction (there's a hill beyond the stand of trees and then a road), and the last photo, of the playground and the woods beyond, was taken out my 2nd floor classroom window, all on the same very snowy day. Seems like a million years ago!

Now it's back to the gradebook..... I'm ready to work!
