And the food is good too!

The Egg's Nest, in High Falls, NY, is probably the coolest restaurant with the most creative, artistic environment that I have ever seen. And like I said, the food is good too. It's not totally vegetarian, but there's lots of veggie offerings, and interesting intriguing combinations of food. But mostly it's just beautiful to look at.

From the doors to the tables to the walls to the stairs to the ceilings, every inch of the place is covered with paint, collage, and glitter. The walls have layers and layers of paint, as the owner changes and adds to the paintings and collages frequently, meaning that each time you go you'll see something that wasn't there during your prior visit.

The colors are rich and vibrant everywhere you look, and everything is bejeweled and sparkly. There are paintings on the walls that are charming representations of paintings by Matisse, Picasso, Gauguin, and many others.

Here, below, are the doors to the bathroom! They had to hang scarves from the door handle or you'd never ever find the ladies' room door.

I didn't get photos of the bar, but it is also decorated, and in the bar area there is an authentic working vintage Ms. Pac-Man game. Here's more of the restaurant interior, including a closed-in porch area:

I even found myself taking photos of the bejeweled baseboard radiators in the BATHROOM!

How did I find myself in High Falls today? I had the opportunity to tour my alma mater, SUNY New Paltz, with my college best friend/roomie Nancy. She lives on the west coast and we hadn't seen each other since I visited her 18 years ago. She hadn't been back to the village of New Paltz and the campus since a couple of years after we graduated (1974!) Her sister was taking her daughter (Nancy's niece, a high school student) to tour the campus so we tagged along. That's me and Nancy outside The Egg's Nest in the photo below.

Tomorrow I'll post some photos from the village and campus and the intriguing Mother Earth themed show in the college's art museum.
